From Gordon Ferguson, author of The Victory of Surrender, Dynamic Leadership and many other works.
This is a great book. It masterfully comes at
the subject of baptism from about every angle possible biblically, and is done
in a very reader-friendly manner. Thankfully it is not aimed at doctrinal
argumentation, but aimed squarely at living a strikingly new life by the power
of God.
Especially provocative and helpful
are the chapters on the kingdom, the resurrection and the body of Christ. The
latter chapter brings several concepts together in a unique way and is capped
off with the author’s insightful thoughts about his own “kin.”
This book will help anyone who reads it, regardless of where their particular
starting place may be on the subject.
From
Wyndham Shaw, elder and evangelist in the Boston Church of Christ and coauthor
of Golden Rule Leadership.
In 'The Baptized Life' Tom Jones has hit a "bulls
eye" in his goal to present a full picture of discipleship through an
examination of biblical baptism! As one raised in the "evangelical
South" where baptism was inaccurately taught and dismissed as non- essential,
I found Tom's treatment of baptism as biblically balanced. It is right on
between showing baptism as essential but appropriately place among God's work
and our response to grace and faith.
Especially refreshing was the concept of a "baptized
life" which reflects a continual frame of reference shaped by our original
but ongoing understanding of baptism throughout our spiritual journey!
This is so Biblical and in keeping with the prediction of baptism and new
birth in the Gospels, the examples in Acts and the explanations of the same in
the NT letters! I would be equally happy to give this book to my
evangelical friends for their needed consideration as to a biblically baptized
disciple at any place in their spiritual journey. It will definitely be
on my Christmas gift list!
